Living with illness and pain is something that a lot of us do. Why? I think for one we know (this is our innate intelligence that we don’t listen to) that in order to heal, we will have to make some changes in our lifestyle. Secondly, we live in a society that highlights the magic pill to control symptoms on demand. This is quite dangerous really and somehow gives us a pass on doing those things that are the gasoline on our internal fires. Ultimately that fire will turn into an inferno that will be extremely difficult to put out if you don’t acknowledge it.
Let’s look at change. Change is the biggest deterrent from making positive life-long course corrections. We associate change with pain and in a lot of instances it is uncomfortable, at least at first. But what is lost during this process is just how good you can actually feel and quite honestly what is your birthright once you get through the initial discomfort. We get stuck in this cycle of illness, pain and disease and we simply just forget what it feels like to feel good. We now have a new normal. For me personally, I had heartburn for example off and on for years until I cut loose those things that caused me pain. Fast forward two years and I can count on one hand how many times I have had heartburn and it was short lived without any intervention. As far as the process, initially I felt lost when I implemented a new lifestyle. I felt isolated and alone because now I couldn’t just stop at McDonalds on the way home. Or when asked to go out to eat I had to say no. These kind of things are the biggest challenges indeed, but what really helps is to surround ourselves with people who have made positive lifestyle change. Once you start to realize that you can feel better despite the hurdles, it ultimately drives you to want to keep going. To live a better life. To live a life free of taking pills. To live! The big takeaway is to utilize your internal creativity to overcome adversity. Find new foods and activities to fill those voids. If you get stuck in routine of negativity, that’s all you will get back in return. It’s the law of attraction.
